FAKE IT TILL YOU BAG IT! Tender Tycoon Nabbed Over Bogus Papers in ZPC Aircon Scandal

B-Metro Reporter

A HARARE businessman who allegedly sweet-talked his way into a fat ZPC contract with forged documents is now sweating under legal heat.

Edmore Chitowa, the Managing Director of Epvet Investments, was arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) on serious fraud and forgery charges linked to a shady 2023 tender deal with the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC).

ZACC spokesperson Phyllis Chikundura confirmed the collar, telling B-Metro:
“Chitowa is accused of using a forged NSSA clearance certificate to secure a tender for the supply and installation of rooftop air conditioning units at Hwange Power Station.”

In February this year, Chitowa allegedly tried another stunt, this time producing a fake ZIMRA notice of seizure. He claimed that six aircon units meant for the project had been impounded at the Beitbridge Border Post.
“Our investigations revealed that only two units were on the official seizure list,” Chikundura added.
“The rest was cooked up to mislead ZPC.”

The alleged fraudster was dragged to court and appeared before Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa. He was remanded to 8 July 2025 on US$400 bail.

Rufaro Chonzi appeared for the State.

While Chitowa might have tried to cool down Hwange Power Station, it looks like he’s now the one feeling the heat!
