MOTORISTS have been urged to stay alert, amid reports of scammers impersonating City Parking officials and extorting money from unsuspecting drivers.
In a statement, City Parking management raised the alarm over a growing number of fraudsters donning fake uniforms and approaching motorists under the guise of enforcing parking regulations.
“We urge all motorists to be vigilant of scammers posing as City Parking officials in an attempt to extort money,” read the statement.
“Please be aware that genuine City Parking staff are always clearly identifiable by the official uniforms. If you suspect fraudulent activity or encounter anyone claiming to be a City Parking official without proper identification, do not engage and contact us immediately via our toll-free numbers.”
City Parking said its legitimate officers are “clearly identifiable” and encouraged the public to challenge any suspicious behaviour or demand to see proper identification if in doubt.
The company has reiterated its commitment to transparency and public safety, saying that it will not hesitate to cooperate with law enforcement to bring perpetrators to justice.
Motorists have been reminded to stay cautious, ask for identification and never hand over money without official receipts.
