A FAKE Premier Soccer League (PSL) VVIP card printing syndicate has been smashed in Harare, exposing a shocking scam that rocked the local football scene!
Three alleged masterminds — photographer and editor Blessed Kadzima, gadget owner Chamunorwa Muguti and street runner Alinajee Arubi — have been nabbed after six suspects were busted trying to sneak into Rufaro Stadium using counterfeit VVIP access cards.
The six — Rugare Kaondera (54), Wilbert Zindoga (47), Timothy Nerudzo (50), Charles Banda (37), Fungai Chikonyora aka Charlie (53) and Edith Mutambu (25), a statistician with the Scottland FC media team — were smoked out by a PSL Compliance team on Sunday.
It all went down during a top-flight clash between Scottland and Caps United. The suspects, believed to be working in cahoots with the Harare-based trio, tried to waltz into the stadium like royalty only to be stopped in their tracks by security.
Sources say Chikonyora, believed to be the cash collector, tried to flee after sensing trouble but was caught before he could vanish. He reportedly spilled the beans and led police straight to the operation’s heart, where a laptop, printer and camera were used to churn out the fake cards.
Police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza said an official comment would be issued soon as investigations continue.
The PSL is expected to tighten security amid fears the scandal could be just the tip of the iceberg.
