Falcon College dominate rugby trials

FALCON College dominate the Matabeleland Rugby Under-19 squad thatA� set for Lomagundi College in Chinhoyi for the Zimbabwe national team trials at the start of the weekend.

The provincial trials were held at the Bulawayo home of rugby, Hartsfield Rugby Ground, last Saturday where players from six schools and two select sides from the Western suburbs battled it out to make the 22-member provincial Under-19 squad.

Falcon College contributed 14 players while Petra had three players.

Two players were selected from Christian Brothers College (CBC).

Milton, Plumtree and Western Suburbs contributed a player each.

Coach Brendon French was pleased with the quality of players in the squad and reckons development of rugby in the Matabeleland Region is improving.

Hopefully the selected players will play well at the trials and impress national team selectors.

The team is expected to leave for Chinhoyi todayA� (Friday) and their first fixture will be against Harare Central on Saturday.

As a result of time constraints, the team held a few training sessions at Hartsfield Rugby Ground during the course of the week to fine tune tactics and combinations ahead of the national trials.
