THE long-awaited trial of Harare dealer, Munyaradzi Chauraya, who is accused of indecently assaulting his girlfriend’s daughter and recording a video of the minor during the act, failed to get underway yesterday.
Chauraya appeared before Harare magistrate Barbra Mateko, who remanded the matter to September 21.
The matter could not get underway after Chauraya’s lawyer, Rekayi Maphosa, requested more time to prepare for trial, saying they got the State papers late.
Chauraya is facing charges of indecent assault and producing child pornographic content.
The court heard that on May 27, this year, Chauraya allowed the child to touch and play with his private parts, while he was naked, and went on to record a video, which he shared with four contacts on WhatsApp.
On June 18, the child’s mother shared the video with the child’s father, who made a police report, leading to Chauraya’s arrest.
Several witnesses were ordered to appear in court for trial next month.
Last week, Chauraya appeared in court for assault, after he allegedly assaulted the child.
Tafara Chirambira appeared for the State.
