Families celebrate Father’s Day

Sunday Mail Reporter

Today, Zimbabwe will commemorate Father’s Day.

The day, celebrated on every third Sunday of June, serves as an opportunity for people to show gratitude and affection towards father figures in their lives.

The day’s origins can be traced back to the 20th century and has since become a cultural and commercial event across the world.

For Mr Tawanda Kaminza, a single father from Glen View, Harare, the day highlights the importance of male role models in children’s lives.

“The day promotes positive role models,” he said. “It emphasises the value of responsible fatherhood and encourages fathers to be actively involved in their children’s upbringing.”

Mr Simbarashe Mupondi, a father of three from Kuwadzana, Harare, said the day was a time to celebrate fatherhood, which comes in different forms.

“It is a day to recognise fatherhood, which comes in various forms, including biological fathers, stepfathers, adoptive fathers, grandfathers and other father figures,” he
said.

“On this day, we celebrate the diverse roles these individuals play in families and acknowledge their unique contributions.”

Mr Atkinson Munemo said he will spend the day with his young family.

“I intend to spend the day playing with my child who recently turned one,” he said.

“As a father, it is important for one to be a role model and teach their children right from wrong.”
