A MAKOKOBA family has reportedly gone into hiding following a brutal attack they endured in the hands of unknown assailants.

The assailants were reportedly targeting Mr Thandolwenkosi Moyo who is a known Citizens Coalition for Change activist.

According to a family member related to Mrs Moyo, the unknown assailants who identified themselves as police officers initially attacked Mr Moyo’s wife, Mrs Nkazimulo Moyo at their home and used her to lure her husband back to their Makokoba house.

“These men did not care on the presence of the couple’s children. When Mr Moyo came home after being called by his wife, we are told they then started to attack him, beating him to a pulp accusing him of being in the forefront of campaign for the opposition.

“During the attack, the men also searched the house and found campaign material belonging to the CCC. Nkazimilo was also raped in front of her husband and children. The group took Mr Moyo and we are not sure where they took him. Fortunately, they did not take Mrs Moyo, which is how she then managed to take her children and is now in hiding as we are not sure what will happen to her and the rest of the family,” said the relative on condition of anonymity.

The family member revealed that they were now also searching for Mr Moyo’s whereabouts as he was last seen leaving with the attackers.

“The police have said they are not aware of his whereabouts and are saying there is no proof that Mr Moyo is missing. For us to know what happened on the fateful day, Nkazimulo confided to us before she went into hiding. Now the police are saying she should come and make the report herself,” said the source.
