music in the Harare Gardens.
Backed by a revamped Fishers of Men, the Charambas are a joy to watch and their chemistry on and off the stage is amazing. Their melodious voices and highly charged performances await gospel music lovers come Sunday.
Baba Charamba, as his fans lovingly call him, has a long list of albums that include chart toppers like “Vhuserere”, “John 3:16”, “Verses and Chapters” and “Exodus”. His latest offering titled “Pashoko Pangoma” features hit songs “Moriya Ineminana”, “Jehovah Ndiye”, “Mviro Mviro” (Part 3) and “Regera Kundisiya”.
Besides the hits, Baba Charamba is renowned for his emotional performances on stage. Few people have attended his performances without being touched by his spiritually uplifting songs.
At each performance he connects well with the audiences and commands a huge inter-denominational following. On the other hand, Mai Charamba, who started off as a backing vocalist for the Fishers of Men, will be out to show her own musical prowess.
She boasts three albums that include “Amen”, “Daily Bread” and “Gospel”. Her repertoire includes hits like “Rute”, “Zvanga Zvakanaka” and “Africa Restore Identity”. Charles and Olivia have truly used their sungura-inspired beat as a medium through which they reach out to their fans.
“The backbone of my music is my husband. In fact, he has been an inspiration in my life,” Mai Charamba was quoted as saying.
One of her successful albums to date is “Daily Bread” in which she talks about spirituality.
And Jah Prayzah is the musician to watch out for this year. He has built a firm fan base and besides appealing to the mature, his music now relates to the youths.
The lanky singer is doing well with his latest hit album “Tsviriyo” which features a number of talented musicians including superstar Oliver Mtukudzi on the song “Sisiriya”.
Over and above this, Jah Prayzah has become one of the most sought-after performers. Since he will be sharing the stage with the Charambas he is expected to generate a lot of heat when he takes to the stage clad in his trademark army fatigues.
To spice up the line-up will be Mhere who critics described as a gospel star-in-waiting.
Mhere announce his arrival with the release of his album titled “Favour”. Some likened his voice to that of Blessing Shumba but he maintains that he is his own man. So far it has been well and good for the youngster who is angling for dizzy heights for as long as he remains level-headed.
Show promoter Partson Chimbodza of Chipaz Promotions promised fans a great show filled with music and dance. He, however, said there was nothing amiss on the artistes line-up since all the musicians sing positive messages.
“We don’t see anything wrong in bringing secular and gospel musicians on one stage. In fact, that should be a reason to celebrate considering the positive messages by each of the performing artiste,” he said.
