The song, which has become a hit at national, social and religious gatherings as well as on the airwaves, invites people from all the country’s provinces to come together and join hands in whatever they do for the good of the nation as they worship the Lord.
“When Minister Shamu first heard the song, he was impressed by the way it encourages unity among Zimbabweans, although when we first wrote it we were not aware of the kind of impact the song would make.
“To us, it was just an introductory song, not knowing that it was actually sending a very powerful message to the nation,” said Brian Manyukwe, one of the founders of the group.
Manyukwe commended Minister Shamu for his interest in assisting the group, saying this would go a long way in unifying Zimbabweans through music.
“He (Minister Shamu) is a man of the people and as the patron of the Zimbabwe Union of Musicians, he is very determined to see musicians contributing to nation-building through music.
“That is why his ministry has always been there for artistes from the grassroots right to the top,” Manyukwe said.
The song also encourages Zimbabweans to be proud of their heritage and identity.
With its members drawn from various parts of the country and also different denominations that include the United Methodist Church as well as the Methodist Revival Church, the song talks about the diamonds, citrus fruits, and places of interest that are found in Manicaland.
“Through the song, we are urging people to be patriotic since home is always best.
“We want to take our act around the Southern African region in countries like Botswana, Zambia, Malawi South Africa and later on invade the Diaspora, that if sponsorship permits us,” added Chris Musekiwa, who is the group’s events co-ordinator.
Formed in 2010 by Manyukwe and Tafadzwa Tsiga with the assistance of Mutsa Mujaji, the manager of the outfit, Marimba aJehovah Gospel outfit is an offshoot of Masimba Edenga and to date they have released two albums — “Marimba Volume I” and “Marimba Volume II”.
