A MURDER suspect was turned in to the police by members of his family.

The family heard that he murdered a fellow patron during a bar brawl.

Dennis Magweta (35) of Hatcliffe, appeared in court yesterday on a murder charge.

Magweta, a soldier, was remanded in custody to July 19, pending finalisation of investigations.

The court heard that on Friday, Magweta and the now deceased were drinking beer at GGM Sports Bar at Hatcliffe Shopping Centre.

A misunderstanding arose between the two and Magweta struck the now deceased twice on the face.

The man sustained two deep cuts on the face and bled profusely.

Magweta then kicked the man several times on the face before disappearing into the darkness.

The man reported the matter at the Hatcliffe Police Post, and he was taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital where he died the following day.

Magweta was handed over to the police on Sunday by his relatives when they heard that he had murdered someone at the bar.

Meanwhile, murder suspect Callisto Murawo, was back in court yesterday to confirm his warned and cautioned statement given to the police upon arrest.

Magistrate Mangosi cleared the courtroom before he read the extra-curial statements to Murawo.

Murawo is accused of assaulting David Matambo to death at his sister’s bar in Belgravia last month.
