The streets have said it, Fab G’s Imali Yesgweja is the song of the Year!
Umthobanhliziyo Tribal sound founder Fab G Mshana kaGogo is floating on top of the cream after fans have endorsed his latest single Imali Yesgweja as the anthem that will shut down 2025, ushering them into the next year.
The song has been making a lot of rounds in different circles from social media to night spots and sports arenas, as many seem to be charmed with the easy, flawless lyrics that are part of the composition.
Fans and critics alike are praising Imali Yesgweja’s relatable theme and catchy new-age AmaPiano vibe, making it a hit for the festive season.
To make it easy for the layman to understand, the song was composed based on the life of oGweja, loosely translated to illegal gold panners.
Fab G said in coming up with the song, he was inspired by the daily struggles and victories of miners who work tirelessly to make a living. The joint celebrates their resilience, determination, and the joy they find in their hard-earned success.
The song was composed and sung by Fab G. The instrumentation was done by South African producer, CheckKid Beats, with Cliff Jeans from Street Menace Studios handling the vocal mixing and mastering phase, ensuring the song comes out with a polished sound.
“The concept for Imali Yesgweja began as a freestyle performance at a live event at eMawabeni, where I connected with the audience by coming up with something that was relatable to them as the event was mainly attended by oGweja.
“When I sang that part, the crowd’s overwhelming reaction inspired me to turn it into a full track.
Imali Yesgweja is not only an amazing song, it’s complemented by visuals shot and directed by Brooklyn Films International with directing assistance from Bra Vancy also known as Sporori.
“To give the song more life and an appeal, we shot the video at a mine in Esigodini, capturing the raw essence of the miners’ lives and their celebratory moments.
On the video, we worked closely with the Vintage Culture Association alongside the Royal Finest Dance Crew from Old Magwegwe as they starred as dancers and actors. There are also individuals who helped financially to make this entire project a success. It’s definitely teamwork,” said Fab G.
With the song trending with many saying, “It’s a re-discovered Matabeleland music sound,” Fab G is tipped for a successful festive season full of bookings and eventually breaking new grounds.
