Fans tip Muduhwa, Kutsanzira for Supportersa Player of the Year

Sisasenkosi Ncube
HIGHLANDERS Football Clubas faithful have tipped Peter Muduhwa and Rahman Kutsanzira as the top favourites for Supportersa Player of the Year accolade at the clubas awards ceremony that is set to take place Friday night at the Bulawayo Polytechnic School of Hospitality.

The awards are returning after a three-year absence.

The 2016 awards will see supporters voting for Supportersa Player of the Year.

When the new category was introduced supporters were asked to acquire forms at the club offices or Barbourfields Stadium and vote for the player they consider to have outshone his teammates in the just ended Premiership season.

According to the clubas secretary general Emmert Ndlovu voting for the Supportersa Player of the Year closes a few hours before the awards ceremony.

a?The response was not very encouraging probably due to financial challenges that people are facing but we still expect last minute rush voting before the awards ceremony,a? said Ndlovu.

In a snap survey by B-Metro, supporters were divided between Rahman Kutsanzira and PSL Soccer Star of the Year finalist Peter Muduhwa scooping the Supportersa Player of the Year.

Julius Judge a?JJa? Ncube, a Bosso life member, tipped Muduhwa to land the accolade.

a?Rahman played well but for me Peter was outstanding in stabilising the defence by showing composure at the back,a? he said.

Another fan Sevy Sibanda also known as a?MaDawu We Bossoa?, an airtime vendor also concurred with Ncube that Muduhwa would take the award home.

a?I wonder why he hasnat received a call up from the Warriorsa coach (Callisto Pasuwa) considering that he is a young player who has carried the Bosso backline on his shoulders,a? said Sibanda.

Muduhwa broke into the senior team in Week 9 against Border Strikers and never looked back relegating captain Felix Chindungwe to the bench for the better part of the season.

For one Melusi Khabo, failure to make it into the PSL Soccer Star of the Year finalists does not mean Kutsanzira cannot be voted the Supportersa Player of the Year.

a?He played his heart out in the middle of the park and deserves to win a number of awards,a? said Khabo.

In other accolades that are up for grabs vice-captain Eric Mudzingwa is favourite to win the Longest Serving Player award after 10 years at the Bulawayo giants.

a?Mudzingwa must win that award, he has been with Highlanders for a decade now and his presence is a morale booster to the young players such as Prince Dube and Adrian Silla,a? said a supporter identified as TeeKay Sibanda.

Bosso midfield maestro, Simon a?Yolaa? Munawa could land the Scorer of the Most Spectacular Goal (s) while the young Dube is poised to take the Most Improved Player.
