Farai Jere ready to take the helm of Zifa

As the Zimbabwean football fraternity prepares for the upcoming Zifa presidential elections, one name has been consistently mentioned as a strong contender, Farai Jere.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairman says he is ready to take the reins of Zifa. Jere’s journey to the top has been nothing short of remarkable. From humble beginnings as team manager of Caps United, he rose through the ranks to become sponsor, co-owner, owner, and eventually president of the club.

As PSL chairman, Jere has overseen a period of significant growth and development for the league. He has implemented a management style that empowers the secretariat to take ownership of their work. The PSL has become a professional and organised entity, with a clear vision for the future.

One of Jere’s most notable achievements as PSL chairman has been the acquisition of a property in Harare, which will serve as the league’s headquarters. This move has not only provided the PSL with a sense of permanence and stability but also given the league a platform to grow and develop.

Jere believes that his experience as PSL chairman has prepared him well for the challenges of leading Zifa.

“My time as PSL chairman has given me a deep understanding of the local football landscape. I’ve learned how to navigate the complexities of Zimbabwean football, and I’m confident that I can bring a sense of stability and direction to Zifa,” he said in an exclusive interview.

Jere’s management style is built around empowering his team to take ownership of their work. He believes in giving his staff the autonomy to make decisions and take calculated risks, and this approach has yielded impressive results at the PSL.

“I believe in trusting my team to do their job. I am not even a signatory for our bank accounts. I give them the freedom to make decisions and take ownership of their work. This approach has worked well for us at the PSL, and I’m confident that it can work for Zifa as well.”

As Jere prepares to throw his hat into the ring for the Zifa presidency, he is aware of the challenges that lie ahead.

“I’m excited about the prospect of leading Zifa,” said the Harare businessman and Member of Parliament.

“I believe that I have the skills, experience, and passion to make a real difference in Zimbabwean football. I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead and to working with all stakeholders to take our beautiful game to the next level.”
