A suspected thief appeared in court on Monday facing charges of stealing 39 bags of fertiliser from Farm and City Centre.

Victor Vambe (22) was released on US$100 bail.

He was ordered to reside at the same address and not to interfere with State witnesses until the matter is finalised.

The State said sometime in November this year, Vambe and his accomplice Lovemore Randa went to Farm and City Centre and bought one bag of ammonium nitrate fertiliser and two bags of compound D fertiliser.

They were given a receipt.

Vambe then forged the receipt to make it look like they had bought 39 bags of fertiliser.

The court heard that the duo went on to collect the 39 bags from Farm and City Centre and went to sell them in Mbare.

Acting on a tip-off, the police went to Matagarika Flats, Mbare, and approached the duo pretending to be potential buyers.

Vambe showed them his fertiliser, leading to his arrest.
The police managed to recover 21 bags of compound D and 13 bags of ammonium nitrate fertiliser.
