A 28-YEAR-OLD Headlands farm employee — Freddy Madhungudza — was sentenced to six months in prison for breaking into his manager’s office and stole property, including a short gun.
Madhungudza pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful entry when he appeared before Rusape magistrate, Ms Daphene Maruta.
He was unrepresented.
Ms Maruta initially sentenced him to 12 months in jail, but suspended three months on condition of good behaviour.
A further three months were suspended on condition that he pays US$300 in restitution to Gijima Farm manager, Macdonald Matare.
Madhungudza will serve an effective six months in prison. Gijima Farm is owned by prominent farmer, businessman and former football executive, Lovemore Gijima Msindo.
Prosecutor, Mr Innocent Moyowaonda, told the court that Madhungudza later dumped the gun and the gun cabinet a few metres from the office, and went away with the monitor, keyboard and cables.
“The complainant and the accused person are not related. The accused person was employed at Gijima Farm, in Headlands. On April 20, at around 11pm at the farm, the accused person broke the lock at the office using a metal bar and gained entry. When inside, he stole a short gun, gun cabinet, monitor, keyboard and cables and went away.
“The accused failed to carry the property and dropped the short gun and gun cabinet about 50 metres away from the office. The complainant recovered the gun cabinet and the short gun. Value stolen is US$500 and US$200 was recovered,” said Mr Moyowaonda.
