A MAN from Mahohona Village, under Chief Mahenye in Chipinge is on the run and has been declared a fugitive from justice after he allegedly murdered another man over a traditional beer dispute.
The incident occurred on August 24 at around 3pm.
Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said the suspect, Jenine Mukurukuji, is currently on the run.
The victim, Norest Mavengana (33), was drinking traditional beer when the accused approached him, leading to the fatal altercation.
“The suspect asked for a sip of the beer, but Mavengana refused. The rejection did not sit well with Mukurukuji, who was already intoxicated. He then drew a knife from his trousers and stabbed the victim at the back and on the occiput,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
Mavengana allegedly died before receiving any assistance.
The suspect reportedly walked away holding the knife, and no one confronted him.
The deceased’s sister, Beauty Mavengana, reported the incident to the police, who attended the scene. The body was taken to St. Peter’s Hospital for a post-mortem.
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka urged members of the public to work with the police to apprehend the suspect.
“We urge members of the public with any information regarding the whereabouts of Jenine Mukurukuji to report to their nearest police station,” he said.
