Farmers on cloud nine over President’s victory

Agriculture Reporter
FARMERS have expressed joy over President Mugabe’s victory in the harmonised elections. Many resettled farmers said they feared losing their land had any other party than Zanu-PF won the elections. The MDC-T has been on record saying they would reverse the gains of the land reform. They said now that President Mugabe had won overwhelmingly, there was no room for another party to sabotage farmers. Mvuma farmer Mr Thomas Mombe said now he could produce without any challenges.

“We are now settled. We were afraid that other parties could remove us from the land and we would become homeless and poor. Now that President Mugabe has won we can plan and make meaningful developments on our farms. We are now certain we will stay at the farms,” he said.

Another farmer, Mr Sylvester Chibuda, said it was important to be led by President Mugabe who pioneered land reform.
“He understands the importance of land as a way of empowering the nation. He is the best person to deal with the issues being faced by farmers and we are confident that things are going to improve in the agriculture industry,” he said.

Other farmers said President Mugabe’s victory would bring an end to the challenges they had been facing under the inclusive Government.
The farmers complained that under the inclusive Government they had funding problems as the then Finance Minister Tendai Biti was not forthcoming when it came to agriculture funding.
