THE situation in Masvingo is calm with people going about their business as usual following last week’s harmonised elections in which Zanu-PF trounced the two MDCs resoundingly. While there were isolated and sporadic cases of supporters who were celebrating in lorries and small cars after the announcement of results showing a landslide Zanu-PF victory last week, peace and tranquillity continue prevailing in the province.

Most people who spoke to The Herald in Masvingo said they were happy that the elections passed without any violence while the post-election period had also been quiet and peaceful.

They said attention should now focus on developing the country.

A Masvingo housing developer Mr Wellington Mahwende said there was need for the world to respect the wishes of the people of Zimbabwe, adding the conclusion of the elections should pave way for peace and prosperity.

“Now that the elections have been completed and a political party (Zanu-PF) that is liked by majority Zimbabweans won convincingly the world should let the country focus on the important issue of further developing the country,” said Mr Mahwende.

“The party which won the elections should be given a chance to govern because it got its mandate from the people.”
