THE Zimbabwe Farmers Union (ZFU) has challenged farmers in Manicaland to secure farming insurances with reputable companies as it is critical in ensuring the safety of their investments.

In an interview, ZFU provincial manager for Manicaland, Mr Dennis Chisevure, advised farmers on the importance of insurance following a rise in risks affecting farming comprising mainly climate change, pests and diseases.

He said over the past seasons farmers have lost property, livestock and crops worth lots of money and failed to recover as they were not covered by insurance.

“We encourage farmers to have insurance. It is high time they did so as a critical component in their business.

“Risks which are associated with farming are rising by the day due to climate change hazards like veld fires, hail and thunderstorms, among others. It is, therefore, very important for farmers to get insurance that covers their property, animals and crops to ensure that their businesses continue even after facing these challenges,” he said.
