adminRuzive’s work as a designer has not gone unnoticed. When she participated at this year’s fashion week event in Harare she left a lasting impression. She is actually poised for dizzy heights even after the advent of foreign and cheap clothes.
“I participated at this year’s fashion week event that was held in Harare and I think people were impressed by my designs. I have designed a national dress, which has been adopted.
“I am also happy to be recognised as one of top designers in the country and for having my works given due attention by the organisers of fashion week,” said Ruzive.
She said it was always every person’s wish to have a good appearance. It may be for a particular occasion but has anyone asked himself or herself the question why they have to appear in a certain way?
The Masvingo-based fashion designer says appearing smart retains confidence in an individual and adds value to someone’s pedigree in social life or where he works. She says people may take dressing in a certain way for granted because they may not be informed. Any woman or man who is fashion conscious normally does things with exuberance due to the kind of dressing the person would be putting on and Ruzive says the secret is in the psychological effect in dressing.
“The person who is smartly dressed would have psychological balance and thus instills confidence and open mindedness. When designing clothes the designer ensures that what she/he makes carries a message which makes the one who would be wearing feeling not only good but important,” said Ruzive.
Ruzive said her bias towards fashion has brought a paradigm shift and she now looks at life in a unique perspective.
“When I thought of studying for a profession in textile and designing at college I did not know that I would have an appreciation of fashion although no one forced me to choose a career in fashion. I did not expect to be entrenched in fashion the way I am now.
“When I started studying I thought it was one of those things that one can do to pass time.”
She said Masvingo had talented fashion designers that given an opportunity can do wonders and even create employment for the province and country at large.
“There are many talented fashion designers that we can compete with those from Harare, as some of us have demonstrated at national fashion week recently. We need many textile companies where we can easily order our materials and companies that we can dispose our wares to.
“We are facing challenges because there are substandard clothes being sold at a cheaper price out there,” said Ruzive who runs a boutique.
