It is only a few hours before the New Year. I know a lot of us are already celebrating being given the chance to see what the New Year has in store for them. For sure, why not when offered another chance to redeem and correct ourselves. But we are all responsible. We have to make things happen. New Year’s resolutions have been written already, some have pictures in their heads of how and what they should have in 2012. Some may be still despondent that the year has ended without them achieving anything. It is only the year which has ended. It doesn’t mean the end of everything because an end is just the beginning of something else. Life goes on.
We might all have slowed down in our daily activities to enjoy the holidays, but be careful, don’t relax for too long. The early bird catches the early flies. Sooner than later your body will be so comfortable in doing nothing and the problem begins.
I was so privileged to listen to a lecture about continuity from a leading social historian and columnist, whom I am not going to mention by name. But for those who were lucky to be there, at the closing ceremony and prize giving day at a certain school when he was the guest of honour, will easily remember this. It was such an educative lecture and eye opener for a lot of us. For sure they say, learning never ends; we learn something everyday.
Exercise is not only about today and tomorrow; it is about a lifestyle and a way of living. It might sound impossible and tough but I only have to say the truth, only the truth will serve you and I. So my theme today has reminded me about this great lecture which I want to share with you my colleagues. It can be of great motivation.
I am talking about the importance of not stopping your exercises and the social historian spoke about continuity in general life. So what it means is, when we are strategising whatever it is in life, you should have a format on how to carry on.
Because according to him even when God created the world he made continuity possible by allowing all living things including people to conceive, which he point blank called fertility. He said fertility means continuity. You cannot be closer to the truth than that. Generations and generations will come and pass but the circle will never end because of the law of fertility. We all know geographically that, the world is round. The historian said round shapes resemble continuity. For sure you cannot say the world starts here and ends there. You can go round and round the circle until you drop dead. I agree with him, most natural things form a circle for continuity in one way or another. Our seasons go on and start again, our ecosystem forms a circle.
Water in our rivers flows to the seas, evaporates, forms clouds and rain, back into the rivers and it goes back into the rivers and streams again. Most African cultures and their ways of living resemble continuity. Most of their construction structures and artifacts are always in a circular shape. Look at our wooden plates and drums, they are all round. We always sit in a circular shape when sharing our favourite isitshwala/sadza and at beer drinks. Our own Great Zimbabwe Monument is round; everything is round. So if our own Great God allows everything to continue, it will be a big mistake on our side if we have to allow anything to end.
So continuity is the answer. I know a lot of those I have been working with, who cannot wait for the gym to resume. For those who might not have made the decision the time is now. Your health is your wealth and life. Some will ask, why I do not get tired of saying this over and over again. But surely I won’t because exercising has been proven to be one of the best ways to stay healthy. So any normal human being will never ignore his health.
In this day and age of pressure and stress to make ends meet one will need a strong body and heart to avoid succumbing to heart failures and strokes. Exercises strengthen your heart muscles like any other muscle in your body when doing a workout. Reducing excess fat in your body reduces the thinning of your blood vessels which causes high blood pressure and leads to heart attacks and strokes. Exercises reduce your ageing rate — we all need to look young. The reasons are endless but I am just glad to remind you of these few, and the choice is yours.
I wish you the healthiest and best bodies in 2012. Get back in shape, work-out next week.
Happy New Year!
With lots of love.
