Fashion extravaganza at Ziyanda movie trailer

IT’S been quite a while since I attended or have been invited to a glitzy event, obviously with celebrity guests. I felt as if I had lost touch with all sense of fashion last week after, attending the dinner, cocktail party, which also doupled up as a preview of a soon to be shot movie, featuring South African actresses Katlego Danke who starred as Dineo in Generations and Zintle Ncipha who stars as Kamo in Rhythm City .

The event itself was colourful and dazzling, the celebrities, both international and local were just an added bonus.

Anyway some of us who were not working on the day and were almost caught unaware, fumbled through our wardrobes trying to pick out the best clothes to wear to the “party”, which was a black tie event.

We, as a panel of journalists, managed to interview the two South African ladies, clad in sexy sultry evening dresses.

One of the “journalists” (one of the few interesting local female fashion columnists) on the panel — Rutendo Chidawanyika decided to partner with me this week to give an insight into the night.

Below are some of her thoughts of the event and the venue:

The atmosphere at the venue of the event was laid-back, as the guests walked into the lavish lodge. The swimming pool in the garden was brightly lit with little colourful lights that gave a soothing effect and the garden too was decorated with neon blue lights all around the trees.

“As the people filled up the rows, waiting in anticipation for the movie trailer, it was evident people took time to dress up for the event.

“Nyasha Mtamangira, the host, wore a trendy navy sleeveless velvet dress, embroided with gold accessories, with a thigh high slit. She paired her look with gold spiky heels,” said Rutendo, who is also a fashion critique (not police, she says it’s too dramatic to coin it that).

The stars of the night Katlego and Zintle stole the show in their hot but sophisticated outfits.

Katlego wore a black knee length one shoulder dress. The sleeve was olive green and made of chiffon, she teamed her look up with black sparkly kitten heels and an emerald ring.

She stated that one of her favourite fashion icons was renowned Venezuelan-American designer, Caroline Herreira and her style is normally inspired by comfort.

“I have a personal interest in fashion,” she said.

With the help of her stylist and young sister who is also fashion designer Katlego said she is able to keep up with latest trends.

Zintle showed up in a black sparkly long sleeve, knee high dress paired with stockings and black kitten heels, almost similar to Katlego’s.

She had a simple but elegant look. She too said she loved fashion, stating that works with what suits her personality. Both stars enjoyed talking about fashion and style. Among the invited guests, our own upcoming artistes spotted ravishing outfits. One of them wore a flared red dress, with black heels and gold accessories.

Notable guests such as the organiser of the event’s wife Mrs Nkomo wore a red and black ethnic dress which complemented her figure.

Although the theme colours were red and black, the majority of people played it safe by sticking to black.

Most men showed up in black suits and red ties. However, there is one trend that I have noticed, men somehow don’t seem to adhere to rules when it comes to fashion. Yes, there were a few that wore suits and ties but a number of them, including me, decided to rock up casual wear. Not that it was entirely off but the trend, trust me, is growing. I have been to several events where men don’t wear ties. It is appalling if you ask me. There is nothing special about not wearing a tie to an event that requires you to. Men let’s get our act together and respect the dress codes of special events.
