A man from Gokwe was allegedly attacked and killed by six men who were after his fleeing son.
Mardon Dube (55), was reportedly attacked by six men who had come to his homestead seeking to assault his son, who had stabbed one of them during a fight the previous day.
The incident has left the community in shock and concerned about the escalation of violence in the area.
Midlands Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the fatal incident.
“Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a case of murder where a 55 – year – old man died after he was attacked by a gang of six men,” he said.
“The incident occurred on August 17 at Kashiri Village under Chief Chireya in Gokwe North District.”
Insp Mahoko said on August 16, James Dube (21), the son of the now deceased, was involved in a fight with the suspects at Chidoma Business Centre in Gokwe and stabbed one of the suspects with a knife on the hand before he fled.
“On August 17, the suspects went to James Dube’s residence looking for him. On seeing them, James ran away, leaving his father at home. The six took turns to assault and stabbed Mardon Dube until he became unconscious. Mardon died while being rushed to the hospital.”
Insp Mahoko appealed to members of the public for information on the whereabouts of the six suspects who are on the run.
“Their names are Oliver Madzivazvido, Felix Madzivazvido, Jealous Madzivazvido, Prince Ngondi, Tinashe Shonhiwa and Tafadzwa Shonhiwa, all of Village Madzivazvido Chief Chireya, Gokwe North,” he said.
