A FATHER experienced his worst nightmare after he accidentally ran over and killed his 19-year-old son, who was working under a car in Ushewokunze.
The incident happened while the young man was attempting to address a mechanical issue that had developed while the car engine was still running.
Police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the incident.
Witnesses, who saw the accident, said the victim crawled underneath the vehicle to check the problem but, as he was working, the car unexpectedly moved, resulting in a fatal accident that crushed his head.
Emergency services responded quickly but the young man succumbed to his injuries while being transported to Sally Mugabe Hospital.
The police have urged drivers and vehicle owners to exercise extreme caution when performing repairs and to ensure that engines are turned off to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding the accident,” Comm Paul Nyathi said.
