FBC Bank has intensified efforts to support the national and global transition to cleaner energy sources by actively seeking strategic partnerships and exploring innovative financing mechanisms aimed at accelerating the adoption of renewable energy technologies.

The financial institution, part of FBC Holdings, has identified renewable energy, particularly solar power, as a key pillar in its sustainability agenda and economic development strategy.
“We are actively exploring opportunities within this sector, including financing and investment in renewable energy projects, particularly solar energy initiatives,” said the Group in its 2024 Annual Report under sustainability section.

The bank’s suite of solar loan products is structured to empower individuals, businesses and communities to embrace clean energy solutions, with benefits that include reduced carbon footprints and lower energy costs.
“Our solar loan products are designed to empower individuals, businesses and communities to adopt clean energy solutions, reducing their carbon footprint and energy costs.
“We see a significant opportunity to expand our renewable energy portfolio by supporting both large-scale solar farms and smaller-scale distributed generation projects,” it added.

The initiative is underpinned by FBC’s broader environmental and social responsibility commitments, which include improving energy access and promoting sustainable development across Zimbabwe.
“This focus aligns with our commitment to environmental responsibility and energy access, and contributes to a more sustainable energy future for the region.
“We are actively seeking partnerships and exploring innovative financing mechanisms to further accelerate the adoption of renewable energy technologies and continue to the global transition to a cleaner energy source.”

The bank said it was refining internal systems to ensure more robust tracking and reporting of its renewable energy financing activities.
“While we have been offering solar loans under our banking and microfinance subsidiaries, we are refining our systems to comprehensively capture, monitor, and report on our renewable energy lending activities.”

Beyond its financing instruments, FBC Holdings has demonstrated tangible support for community energy resilience.

For instance, in 2024, the Group donated a 10kV solar power system to Entembeni Old People’s Home in Bulawayo, underscoring its commitment to social impact and sustainable energy solutions.
“This impactful contribution improves residents’ quality of life by ensuring a reliable power supply for essential needs, including lighting, heating, and medical equipment, while also reducing the home’s operational costs.
“The transition to solar energy significantly lowers the home’s carbon footprint, contributing to climate action and promoting a cleaner environment.
“This initiative strengthens FBC Holdings’ reputation as a socially responsible corporate citizen and aligns directly with several Sustainable Development Goals.”

FBC Holdings said the donation represented more than just a charitable gesture.
“Ultimately, this donation represents a tangible investment in the lives of elderly residents, enhances the home’s energy independence, and showcases FBC Holdings’ dedication to building a better future.”

As the demand for sustainable financing grows, FBC Bank’s proactive stance positions it as a key enabler of Zimbabwe’s renewable energy transformation and climate resilience efforts.
