They might be the Northen Region Soccer League’s newbies but FC Oden are not feeling any sense of intimidation in the big boys’ club.
Instead, the Chinhoyi outfit are in a bullish mood. So confident are they that they vowed to shake the old order in the NRSL which has seen such perennial campaigners like Black Rhinos, Black Mambas, Harare City, Chegutu Pirates, Golden Eagles and Banket United fight for honours every other season. FC Oden, are a squad of young players determined to make their mark.
Their coach Munyaradzi Charuza spoke of both the anxiety and excitement in his camp.
“We are excited to start this new chapter in our team’s history and make a statement in the Northern Region Soccer League,’’ Charuza said.
FC Oden will start with an away assignment against Black Mambas at Mkushi Academy Ground on Saturday (April12).
“We are confident that our team can compete with the best of the league and make a positive impression.
“As a new team in the region, we are aiming to play and maintain the high standards of this competitive league.
“We are not going to be a brush off, and we are not playing to fight relegation and we have come to play and stay, matching both the seasoned and perennial contenders for promotion,’’ Charuza said.
The coach also invited fans to come and watch a new generation of stars they have put together.
“I would like to point out that it would be for the people and supporters to decide as we have assembled a team of nearly the same quality.
“As usual, the technical view will usually differ from the spectator view… In short, I depend on the whole lot to make an impact.”
Although they have a largely young squad, they have some experienced players including goalkeeper Rogers Moyo, Marrin Murisa, Kudzanai Mukumbiri, Fredrick Munyaradzi, and Prince Matafare.
FC Oden’s arrival has also added a spark in the Mashonaland West provincial capital Chinhoyi.
They have become the third Division One team in the town and will fight for bragging rights with Chinhoyi Rangers and Chinhoyi Stars.
But first things first, they might dispense with the assignment away at Mambas at a venue where Warumwa Warumwa are normally at their most lethal and normally do not take any prisoners. − NRSL
