Chikuni’s sentiments come in the wake of his side’s 0-0 draw against Hardbody on Sunday where they hogged the limelight for the wrong reasons.
Midfielder Ali Sadiki was cautioned by Masvingo-based referee, Masakadza Makonese, when he threw the ball into the net with Hardbody goalie Alexander Useni preparing to dispatch a goal kick in a clear belief in juju.
This was after the miners had failed to penetrate the home team’s defence.
Kugona kunenge kudada bouncers went further and assaulted Hardbody official Talkmore Sibanda whom they suspected of smearing muti on a ball which had been kicked towards the VIP enclosure after he appeared to take too long to return it to the field of play.
In an interview with journalists soon after the match, Chikuni chided Sadiki for his actions saying they were unnecessary.
“I don’t believe in juju but I believe in hard work. When you do your homework things just fall in place but at times things just don’t go your way and that is what happened today. For me juju has no place in football.
“I don’t know why he (Sadiki) did that because it is really not necessary especially when it gets you booked.
“But that is football for you, sometimes players get carried away and do things that shock you,” said the platinum miners gaffer.
Looking ahead to his next game against Monomotapa at Mandava on Saturday and the team’s chances of landing the championship, Chikuni said he is concentrating on winning games and is not worried about the championship.
“I am not worried about the championship but winning games and as for the next match we will treat it like any other game,” said the Zvishavane-based side’s coach.
