Harare City come into the match after an impressive show in a 3-0 home win over Hardbody at Rufaro on Thursday. But FC Platinum have enjoyed better success in the head-to-head matches between the two.
Having lost 1-4 at Gwanzura this season in a league match, the Sunshine City Boys suffered another humiliating defeat in Kariba when they went down 0-3 out of the lucrative Mbada Diamonds Cup.
“We need a positive result. It is our first time to be in Mandava but I am happy that my boys have regained their form,” said coach Bigboy Mawiwi.
“We are playing very well and I might brew a shocker.”
Chikuni has introduced a raft of young players including Edmore Tsoro and Rafel Muduviwa in his team while Welcome Ndiweni was outstanding for them in defensive midfield against Gunners.
Chikuni is likely to miss Mitchelle Katsvairo who twisted his ankle on Wednesday in Harare.
Playing alongside Daniel “Dombo” Ngoma, Katsvairo impressed in a two-man attack and was on target against Gunners.
Marere and Ngoma were also on target.
Harare City have a host of young players who can rise to the occasion and they include Silas Songani, Rapheal Manuvire, Willard Kalongonda and the gifted midfielder Talent Chawapiwa.
This looks a balanced game, with both teams high on confidence, but FC Platinum appear to have perfected the art of beating the Sunshine Boys.
Fans at Mandava have watched this season as Highlanders, Monomotapa, Dynamos and CAPS United won at their beloved fortress which is one of the best football stadiums in the country.
Last season, only Dynamos won at Mandava.
Chikuni is wearing a brave face and is confident things will get better for the club and fans and, crucially, he has the support of the club’s directors.
