FC Platinum not buying new players

The 2011 Castle Lager League runners-up have declared that they have enough arsenal to lift the league championship this season.

“We are not going to the market when the window opens. We have enough players to bring honours to the club. We already have Joel (Mogorosi) Frank Mlambo and Benjamin (Marere). The players are enough and when they gel with the rest of the players then it will be bad news,” said Thadson Zhou the club chairman.

He said the team which was on fourth position had only lost to Highlanders and Caps United.

“We still have many games to play and I am confident that we are going to fulfill our dream of landing the league title. It is not a secret that we need the championship as well as playing in the Champions League next season,” said Zhou.

FC Platinum missed the championship in their maiden year to Dynamos on the last day of the season settling for silver. The team could have been the second team to take the league championship trophy out of Harare and Bulawayo after St Paul’s Musami.

The team had done very well but were dealt a major blow when their coach Benjamin Moyo died thus forcing the club to appoint an interim coach and later substantive coach Rahman Gumbo.

Gumbo who joined the team from Botswana, went on the market at the beginning of the season and swooped on the best players in the country as he sought to win another championship in Zimbabwe.

Allen Gahadzikwa, the former Motor Action engine room, Qadr Amin, Thandazani Ndlovu, Cabby Kamhapa, Rowan Nenzou, Simon Shoko and Ali Sadiki all joined the green and white outfit. The Botswana national Mogorosi and Frank Mlambo will bolster the Zvishavane team in a few weeks time.

“We want to bring the championship to Zvishavane for the first time. FC Platinum is a team for Zvishavane residents and we want them to feel proud.

“The team is not for sale and that is the official position. Fans and Zvishavane residents must not panic but instead should rally behind the team’s quest to lift the championship,” said Zhou.

There was speculation at the weekend that Mimosa had sold their franchise to Bulawayo businessman Worthwhile Mugabe.
