FC PLATINUM have been drawn to play against Grupo Desportivo Sagrada Esperança of Angola in the preliminary round of the 2021/22 Confederation of African Football Champions League first round next month.
According to the draw conducted on Friday, the three times in a row Zimbabwean champions will face off against the Angolans on 10-11 September in the first leg while the second leg is scheduled for 17-18 September. If FC Platinum prevail over the two legs, they will face off against whoever wins between Royal Leopards of Eswatini and Zesco United of Zambia in the second round, whose first leg is scheduled for 15-16 October while the second leg takes place on 22-23 October.
In the 2020/21 Caf Champions League, FC Platinum beat Costa do Sol of Mozambique 4-1 on aggregate in the preliminary round. Their journey, however, ended in the first round by Simba Sports Club of Tanzania who won 4-1 on aggregate. Norman Mapeza’s men were then relegated to the Confederation Cup where they were beaten 2-0 on aggregate by ASC Jaraaf of Senegal in the play-off round to bow out of the competition.
