A new short film titled Monophobia is set to premiere on 16 March 2026, with creators promising a gripping story that explores the dangers of fearing solitude and the unintended consequences it can have on others.
Produced by the storytelling collective , the film aims to present what the group describes as “undiluted stories” drawn from everyday realities in the community.
Speaking about the project, Nqobile Jele the writer explained that the production is part of a wider effort by the group to tell authentic African stories that reflect real-life struggles and social issues.

“Blackstoriesworldwide tells undiluted stories. The short film Monophobia tells the story of a pregnant woman who goes into labour earlier than expected and is assisted by two men by the roadside, one of whom is a former maternity doctor dismissed due to alcoholism. Although they help deliver the baby, the child dies and the two men are later arrested for the death,” said Jele.
According to Jele, audiences will be able to watch the film on YouTube and other digital platforms.
He further explained that the film carries a deeper message about the dangers that can arise when people are overwhelmed by the fear of being alone.
“On Monophobia the storyline depicts the fear being alone and how dangerous it can be”. He said
