Female hubby in court

Tendai Gukutikwa Weekender Correspondent —
THE Dangamvura woman who disguised herself as a man and married another woman appeared in court last Thursday facing aggravated indecent assault charges.

Moila Hove alias Clemence George Chibaya Chiwenga (43) is alleged to have used a miniature pestle (mutswi) to satisfy her matrimonial obligations as a husband to her wife, Memory Dhanzi (34).

Hove was not asked to plead when she appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Poterai Gwezhira and was remanded in custody to December 23 for trial.

Hove who was dressed in all blue pair of men’s jeans and a male formal shirt has male features that could leave one convinced that she is a man. She even spotted a box-cut hair cut.

One could easily mistook her for a man as she answered the magistrate in a deep husky voice after being asked on whether she had any complaints against the police.

However, there was not any sign of beard having grown or shaved from her chin.

Public Prosecutor, Mr Fletcher Karombe, alleged that Hove, sometime in 2014 married Dhanzi and the couple has been staying together as husband and wife ever since.

Hove was using the name Clemence George Chibaya Chiwenga. In November 2016, the pair became ‘intimate’ and Hove allegedly used a wooden pestle. She allegedly started menstruating after the intimacy.

Dhanzi then, hatched a plan to find out whether Hove was really male or female.

“On November 16, Dhanzi entered into the bathroom where Hove was bathing and discovered that she was not male, but actually a female.

“On December 3, Dhanzi confronted Hove over the matter and the latter became violent which resulted in the former making a police report,” said Mr Karombe.

The wooden pestle was recovered. It was also stated that Hove was medically examined by a doctor to ascertain her sex, as Dhanzi was also examined on the injuries that had been caused to her by the wooden pestle.

It was confirmed that she was female.
