adminSpeaking at the handover ceremony, Health and Child Welfare Deputy Minister Dr Douglas Mombeshora said the equipment will help in measuring nutrition status, monitoring progress and recording outcomes.
“WFP’s donation comes at an opportune time when the ministry is scaling up high impact nutrition interventions and monitoring systems such as the New Child Health Card, which requires health workers to closely monitor the growth of children under five years,” he said.
Dr Mombeshora said the donation signifies the good collaboration between the United Nations and the Government. WFP country director Mr Felix Bamezon said the organisation had moved from assisting Government tackle food shortages to providing a solution based response to hunger. Mr Bamezon said the equipment will go a long way in assisting health centres.

A total of 500 000 people have benefited from the programme since 2006.
