A couple’s nasty fight over household property ended tragically after the man fatally struck his six-month-old son with a log in Chimanimani recently.
Paul Janasi and Ruth Mberikunashe’s altercation claimed the life of Clayton Janasi who died on his way to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital.
Clayton sustained serious injuries and struggled to breathe after he was hit by the log on his head.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Norbert Muzondo confirmed the incident which happened in Mutidzawanda Village under Chief Mutambara’s area.
“Paul had a misunderstanding with his wife over the household property he had sold without her consent. He grabbed a log and struck Ruth on the right hand with it. However, Ruth was holding their baby and the log hit his head.
“The baby fell down and Ruth picked him, only to realise that he was now having difficulties in breathing.
“Clayton was rushed to Chakohwa Clinic before being transferred to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital where he died along the way,” said Inspector Muzondo.
Paul was arrested and is assisting police with investigations.
Inspector Muzondo urged members of the public to solve marital disputes amicably by seeking advice from third parties instead of resorting to violence.
