WHEN — rather than if — her dream to become a healthcare professional comes to fruition, 19-year-old Sharon Muzava wants to give back to the world by helping heal people and save lives.
Blessed with a richly fertile mind, her brain is metabolically wired – no wonder she yearns to study medicine or pharmacy at university.
The academically gifted whizkid scored 14 points (Mathematics — A; Biology — A; Chemistry — B) in the 2021 Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (Zimsec) Advanced Level examinations and has been seeking financial assistance to enable her to attain tertiary education.
She recently approached The Manica Post to have her appeal for help amplified.
“I wish to proceed to university level to study Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Zimbabwe (UZ). My mother is struggling to make ends meet. I hope well-wishers will come aboard with assistance so that I can achieve my dreams,” she said.
Her prayers are set to be answered as a well-wisher has already pledged to assist the former St Dominic’s High School student.
Sharon has already applied at UZ and is fervently keeping her fingers crossed as she awaits a favourable response.
Her mother, Mrs Mavis Muzava, has said the well-wisher is God-sent.
“After we went out appealing to the public to assist us financially to enable Sharon to pursue university education, a well-wisher came forth and pledged to help us. Our prayer now is that she enrols at UZ to continue with her academic journey.
“We need that assistance as a family because I am a widow taking care of five other children.
“Their father passed away when Sharon was only three. I cannot afford to send her to university as I am surviving on selling frozen water at the Sports Field Vegetable Market in Chikanga,” said Mrs Muzava.
While a benefactor has already pledged to assist the family, Mrs Muzava said anyone who feels that they can also lend a hand is still welcome to make Sharon’s academic voyage bearable.
Sharon’s prayerful mother said she believes that God will make a way for her daughter.
“His will can never take us where His grace cannot find us. Every day we see His abundant blessings and are always counting them,” she said.
Sharon said she will not give up on her dream no matter what problems she might encounter along the way.
Typical of a highflyer that radiates exuberance, she is focused and realise her deeply cherished dream.
Since primary school, Sharon has always shone brightly.
She had four units at Grade Seven and obtained nine As and two Bs at Ordinary Level before her 14-points feat at Advanced Level.
She said dedication, determination and discipline are the ingredients of her recipe for stellar academic performances.
Said Sharon: “I have always been an avid reader since I was young and studiously continued to study in secondary and high school. My ambition has always been to become a medical doctor so that I contribute in healing people and saving lives.
“I feel this is one way I can help my community and the rest of the world because I have also received assistance from good people along the way.”
She looks up to her mother for inspiration. Sharon is even emulating her mother’s work ethic.
“My mother has been the family’s pillar of strength and has provided for us even during difficult times. She deserves a better life and I want to take good care of her when I finish my studies and find a job. She is very caring and hard working and these qualities have also rubbed off onto us,” said Sharon.
Upon completing her professional studies, the gifted whizkid is keen to contribute towards availing affordable and quality healthcare services as the country moves towards attaining Vision 2030
