IT is hard to accept that your partner has been unfaithful to you.

It is even harder to cope with the consequences of such a betrayal.

This is what a man from Chigodora is going through after he recently discovered that his wife was cheating on him.

This was revealed after Tito Chirau dragged Fungai Maone to Headman Chigodora’s court last week on Saturday.

Chirau was accusing Maone of having an affair with his wife.

The two men stay in Buwerimwe Village under Headman Chigodora.

Chirau told the court that he has found Maone at his home with his wife behind closed doors on various occasions.

“When I first found him in my house, I told him that he should desist from such behaviour and thought that he would stop. I promised him severe bashing if I found him again, but he completely ignored my warning as I saw him there again on different occasions.

“I have seen the two of them behind closed doors and each time, he claims that he will be buying airtime from my wife. This is despite the fact that my wife does not sell airtime,” said Chirau.

He said he eventually assaulted Maone after finding him with his wife again.

“While fighting him, I also destroyed some of my wife’s furniture and she pressed charges against me. I was arrested and sentenced to seven months imprisonment.

“Soon after my release, I decided to drag Maone to this court as he turned my home into his own during my absence,” said Chirau, who has two children with his wife.

However, Maone insisted that he only visited Chirau’s home to buy airtime from his wife.

“His wife sells airtime so I go there to buy airtime. If he does not know that his wife sells airtime then maybe it is her secret hustle since he does not provide for his family well.

“She is the only person who sells airtime in our village, and so I am always at her home to buy it,” he said.

Maone later shifted goalposts and told the court that he visits the Chirau homestead since he is a good friend of Chirau’s wife.

“She is a very good friend of mine, so I have every right to visit her as she also visits me. I was surprised when Chirau assaulted me after I had visited my friend.

“He should accept that his wife and I are good friends, there is no need for jealousy. He ended up in jail recently because he could not control his anger,” said Maone.

In his ruling, Headman Chigodora said it is evident that Maone is having an affair with Chirau’s wife.

“You cannot be friends with someone’s wife while the husband is not your friend. You also go to their homestead and enjoy quality time in Chirau’s absence. This all happens behind closed doors.

“If indeed the friendship is innocent, you would enjoy your friendly conversations outside Chirau’s house,” he said.

Headman Chigodora said Maone should compensate Chirau with two beasts and two goats.

“Hopefully, this will discourage you from befriending married women,” he said.

Maone was also ordered to pay a sheep to Headman Chigodora’s community court as a fine.
