VETERAN striker Tawanda “Finger” Nyamandwe came off the bench to rescue a point for inconsistent ZPC Kariba at Nyamhunga yesterday. Nyamandwe tapped in a low cross from Talent Chamboko in the 63rd minute, to cancel out Mutare City’s lead which had come through the head of David Mangezi two minutes after the restart of this Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clash.

But the home side could have won this one had they converted the chances that came their way.  ZPC Kariba coach Godfrey Tamirepi blamed his charges for underrating the bottom of the table Mutare City.

“We were too complacent, the players underrated Mutare City. We also missed glorious chances,” bemoaned Tamirepi.

The hosts, who stunned Highlanders in their last match, will look back at Moses Demera’s miss in the 33rd minute when the former Gunners striker blasted wide from close range, with Mutare City keeper Alfred Chiname looking helpless. They now have one win, six draws and four losses. Mutare City remained at the bottom with seven points from 11 games but coach Joseph “Shabba” Takaringofa praised his charges for earning a vital away point.

“We managed to get a point from a team that had not lost in its last six matches.“
