Manicaland will soon take delivery of 3 000 chicks donated by First Lady Dr Grace Mugabe as part of her efforts to scale up developmental projects.
Zanu-PF Women’s League national secretary for Administration Cde Letina Undenge made the announcement to women who were attending a chicken rearing training workshop organised for beneficiaries of Amai Mugabe’s chicken project at a Mutare hotel yesterday.
The women, who gathered for the training, were drawn from four districts in Manicaland namely Mutare, Nyanga, Makoni and Mutasa.
“Amai has decided to scale up the chicken rearing project she started in 2015 by adding 3 000 more chicks per province,” she said.
“She has given us the starting capital to do business, which will improve the lives of all the women in Manicaland Province.”
Cde Undenge said the women who would have received training on how to rear chickens should take the knowledge back to the grassroots.
Cde Undenge said for the project to work, there should be unity among members of the Women’s League.
“There is no room for factionalism,” she said.
“You, the leadership, should go back to the people and educate others on what you would have learnt here so that this project is rolled out successful.”
Manicaland Women’s League chairperson, Cde Estery Madhuku, hailed the project being initiated by the First Lady and said it would help end poverty.
“We are grateful to Amai and we are happy that more women will start working towards uplifting their families,” she said.
