FIRST Lady, Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa has donated food hampers for Christmas to vulnerable groups in Masvingo Province.
Handing over the hampers to representatives from all the seven districts in the province, on behalf of the First Lady last week, Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Cde Ezra Chadzamira said the province was grateful that vulnerable groups were not being left out during these crucial times.
“I am very honoured on behalf of the First Lady on this programme of handing out food hampers for Christmas so that the vulnerable groups will be able to celebrate Christmas with others. We want to thank the First Lady for the assistance to the vulnerable communities such as Copota, Chambuta, Ngomahuru, individuals and the aged,” he said.
“Each hamper has all the basic commodities such as cooking oil, kapenta, beans, mealie meal, salt and soap.”
Cde Chadzamira said the First Lady had done a lot in the province through her humanitarian efforts such as the cervical cancer screening in partnership with the Angel of Hope Foundation, goat project in which the province was given 1 000 goats and the opening of the national institution for the rehabilitation of children who were living in the streets.
Chairperson of National Council for People with Disabilities Zimbabwe Masvingo provincial chair Mr Tavengwa Mazhambe said they were happy with the donation from the First Lady as this will cheer those who are disadvantaged.
Meanwhile, Cde Chadzamira has urged the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) and Social Welfare Department to distribute seed to the vulnerable groups so that they could also participate in national farming programmes such as Pfumvudza/Intwasa.
