Fitness camp for Bulawayo ladies

IN A first of its kind in Bulawayo female fitness enthusiasts will converge on the Heath Streak Cricket Academy on Saturday for a one-day boot camp that aims to promote healthy living and exercise among ladies and pregnant women.

The boot camp is organised by gym owner and former senior national team aWarriors a trainer Thompson Matenda who has also worked in Mozambique with football club Costa Do Sol for three years.

He is a qualified fitness trainer with a reputable university in the country with a degree in Physical Education and Sports and a Diploma in Sports Management and Certificate in Pre and Post Natal.

In Harare similar boot camps have been held three times in the past year attracting individuals and participants from companies that include Colcom, Lobels Bread and auditing firm Deloitte.

a?The main objective of the boot camps is to encourage healthy living and exercise among women as we tackle cardiovascular diseases which include high blood pressure and diabetes. Pregnant women also benefit from the boot camps in minimising complications that arise during pregnancy and post natal phases. Exercise is very important but as a result of busy life styles women find it difficult to go to the gym and we hope boot camps will fill in that gap,a? said Matenda.

The Bulawayo boot camp is expected to draw at least 100 participants that will be divided into 10 groups with another guest group from Harare also expected to attend.

a?The response has been encouraging and we expect our first boot camp in Bulawayo to be a success. The ladies will be taken through a series of training exercise like tug of war, resistance running and relay. The emphasis is on team work so that at the end of the boot camps participants can still be able to continue exercising in small groups from time to time,a? he said.

The event starts on Saturday at 5.30am with registration pegged at $6 per individual.
