Five-a-side league, Pension Knitwear seal sponsorship deal

THE Bulawayo Five-a-side league has entered into a sponsorship agreement with a knitwear company, Pension Knitwear.
The new sponsors will avail three trophies and 20 medals to be presented to succesful teams at the end of the season.
Vice chairperson of the league Charity Nyoni said the league had been in existence for the past five years but was in limbo for almost two years due to challenges they faced particularly on the sponsorship side.

The league’s launch last week was attended by Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) Southern region board member Mkhululi Mthunzi and the sponsors’ chief executive officer Pension Gwanzura .

“Five a-side soccer is a good sport that is recognised internationally and should be awarded equal recognition like any other sport in the country and I urge officials to treat sponsors with respect as most sponsors withdraw sponsorship because of poor administration,” said Mthunzi.

The five-a-side national league expressed desire to introduce five-a-side in schools as a way of ensuring continuity in the sport.
“It is a good idea to incorporate juniors into the sport and hopefully it’s an idea that will be followed through,” said Mthunzi.

Gwanzura pledged his company’s commitment to sponsoring the league.
“As long as we are still functional as a business we are more than willing to carry on sponsoring the league,” he said.

Today’s fixtures
