FIVE players will miss this weekend’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League matches due to suspensions after they picked up three yellow cards each. All the suspended players are key members for their teams and their absence will likely have a huge influence on how they perform.
“Please note that the player(s) listed hereunder have each accumulated three yellow cards and will be suspended for one match respectively. The said player(s) shall not participate in their club’s match day 10 of the Castle Lager League matches scheduled for the May 23 to 25, 2015,” said the PSL in a communiqué.
Felix Chindungwe (Highlanders), Evans Chikwaikwai (Dongo Sawmill), Thabani Goredema (Chicken Inn), Menard Mupera (How Mine) and Tineyi Chitora (Chapungu) will all sit it out this weekend.
Goredema, who has been holding fort since influential skipper Danny Phiri was red-carded recently, will be sorely missed by Joe Antipas. Phiri is also unavailable due to the ongoing Cosafa Senior men cup in South Africa. Chicken Inn take on Hwange at the Colliery Stadium on Saturday.
Chindungwe has played all the games for Highlanders as a central defender this season following his switch from the midfield by coach Bongani Mafu, a position he starred like a beacon last season.
Mafu will now have to find an able replacement for the dreadlocked Chindungwe who has so far partnered Teenage Hadebe, Douglas Sibanda or Erick Mudzingwa.
Sibanda is also out with the national team in South Africa. Amahlolanyama are back at Barbourfields Stadium where they will welcome unpredictable league debutants Whawha who have already claimed the scalps of Dynamos and FC Platinum.
Bosso have recorded one home victory this season, a 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Hwange. Another loss this weekend is likely to put pressure on the executive to take decisive action on Mafu.
