THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of five of the seven people who died in a tragic road traffic accident along the Bulawayo–Beitbridge Road at Mawabeni in Umzingwane.
The fatal incident occurred on April 3 at around 9.10PM at the 57-kilometre peg when a truck rammed into bystanders who had gathered at an accident scene, killing seven people on the spot.

In a statement yesterday, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the victims were identified by their next of kin.
The deceased have been named as Khumbulani Tshuma (32) of Bekezela, Filabusi, who was travelling in a white Toyota Hilux which had stopped at the scene; Senzangakhona Moyo (43) of Old Lobengula, Bulawayo, a passenger in the Hilux; Victor Moyo (39) of Pumula South, Bulawayo, who was a passenger in a Toyota Probox that had also stopped; Dumoluhle Ncube (30) of Pumula South, Bulawayo, who was driving a truck that had pulled off at the scene; and Fundani Moyo (53) of Mbonjeni Village in Esibomvu.

Commissioner Nyathi said the other two victims are yet to be identified by their next of kin.
Police have since urged members of the public to exercise extreme caution when approaching accident scenes, warning against crowding as it exposes people to secondary accidents.
“Members of the public are strongly discouraged from gathering at accident scenes. Only those providing essential assistance should remain, while others must keep a safe distance,” he said.

Motorists were also advised to reduce speed when approaching accident sites, switch on hazard lights and place reflective warning triangles to alert oncoming traffic.
