MUSHOWANI Stars host Flame Lily in Madziwa today in what should be an epic World Navi Northern Region Division One League clash.
The hosts know that victory will keep their championship campaign alive.Coach Paul “Popopo” Chimalizeni has seen Mushowani Stars turn into a competitive side in recent weeks and have squeezed themselves within striking distance of the leaders.
They have won their last two games, against Karoi United and ZRP Morris and have form and confidence going into this big game.
Flame Lily lie second in the championship race, with the same number of points as leaders Gunners, but separated only by goal difference.
Nesbert “Yabo” Saruchera’s Flame Lily have also been having a good run and beat ZRP Morris and Chegutu Pirates in their last two league games.
A draw or a Mushowani victory, will be cheered by Gunners who have lost some of the magic that made them irresistible when they were beating everything before them. Starbill take on Seven Flames in another clash this afternoon. Starbill team manager Kuda Mugari believes the game has come at the right time as their team is playing well.
“We are performing well and it will be tough, but we will fight for the points,” said Mugari.
“We managed to collect maximum points in our last encounters which will motivate the team. We know they are physical, but we have since made Rufaro our fortress where we have picked several points and after our 1-1 draw in the first leg we now seek maximum points.”
