FORMER Bantu Rovers midfielder Fortune “Fokoza” Ncube wrote his own piece of history amid revelations that he recently clinched South Africa’s Under-10 Elfa Eastern League title with his Sporting CP Academy charges.
Ncube’s youngsters, who came out as the second best club in the past season in the nine-member league, won the 2018 championship with a game to spare after beating Benoni Northerns 3-1.
“I’m very happy. I’m a foreigner here and this is not a small achievement for me. The fact that we won the league this year after coming second in the previous season means the boys have improved a lot,” said Ncube from his base in Mzansi.
At Sporting CP Academy, an institution that has links in Portugal, he works hand in glove with their technical director Joao Braga and assistant coach Aleksander Koci.
“Special mention goes to Braga and Koci because they have been great people to work with. I’m also grateful to the players’ parents because they have been very supportive to me. They always come to cheer the boys,” said Ncube who during his time in Zimbabwe, as a budding juniors coach, won a Harare-based youngsters’ league championship with Christian Saints.
His passion for junior football development has recently been noted in Zimbabwe after he successfully held two Fortune “Fokoza” Ncube Under-14 tournaments in Bulawayo.
The inaugural tourney was held in 2017 at Entumbane’s Esigwagweni Ground where Tshabalala-based Zebra Revolution Under 14 team emerged as winners.
The competition’s second instalment was held late last month and Zebra Revolution successfully defended their title.
