Football boss confident of landslide victory

IT’S election season once again at Zifa and the Southern Region chairman Musa Mandaza is confident his team will garner enough votes for another term at the helm of the First Division league.

Elections for Zifa Southern Region office bearers are scheduled to take place in Bulawayo on Sunday.

Mandaza – the incumbent chairman – believes the work that his team put in the last five years in office will work in their favour in garnering popular vote to lead the regional league for another five years.

The Southern Region league has three major sponsors who bankroll knockout tournaments and the monthly top goal scorer awards.

“It’s no secret that football is operating in difficult conditions and companies are tightening their purses when it comes to sponsoring the game but over the course of the last five years we have managed to bring on board three main sponsors.

“The John Landa Tournament is well sponsored by our patron Raj Modi (Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce) and we also have the Joshua Nkomo Trukumb knockout tournament that started two seasons ago. Nokel Security has also been our all weather friend by sponsoring the monthly top goal scorer award for over five years.

“The good work we have put in the last five years should speak for itself when clubs vote on Sunday and I’m confident that we will be given a fresh mandate to lead for another term,” said Mandaza.

The veteran administrator, whose dance with football dates back to before Independence, will battle it out with former Highlanders’ secretary Andrew Tapela.

Tapela is also an ex Zifa provincial administrator.

Bulawayo City manager Tizirayi Luphahla, Mosi Rovers chairman Mwanda Mubita, former ZRP Bulawayo chairman Fiso Siziba as well as ZPC Hwange secretary Mehluli Thebe are all challenging incumbents Bryton Malandule and Tumediso Mokoena who are seeking re-election.
