The Harare Provincial Youth League will this week launch the inaugural Youth Sports festival, an annual sports extravaganza aimed at empowering the youth through sports.
The festival, which will encompass numerous sporting disciplines, will kick off with a Zonal football tournament set for this coming weekend in Chitungwiza. Harare Youth chairman Godwin Gomwe said the tournament, meant to empower the youth, is expected to touch on different disciplines and possibly spread onto different aspects of the arts as it grows.

“We set down as the Youth League and came up with programmes that we will be introducing from now up until 2018. We have noticed that the youth, who consist of people aged between 18 and 35, sometimes have trouble coming up with big ideas, funding and means to come with projects to help themselves,’’ he said.

Under the new tournament, the capital is going to be divided into six zones which will hold 10-team tournaments open to both professionals and amateur players.

Zone One comprises of Chitungwiza, while Zone Two is made up of Highfield, Glen Norah, Glen View and Budiriro.

Zone Three has Kambuzuma, Mufakose, Kuwadzana, Dzivaresekwa and Warren Park, while all the low-density suburbs and Hatcliffe are in Zone Four. Zone Five is Mabvuku and Epworth, while Zone Six comprises of Mbare, Waterfalls and part of Hatfield.
