CURRENT and ex-players were yesterday celebrating the dawn of a new era in their careers after they graduated with sports administration certificates from the Bindura University of Science Education.

In a commendable partnership between the Footballers Union of Zimbabwe and BUSE, the university, through its Human Capital Management Department, took in an initial 25 students for the course, which will prepare them for careers in the administration of the game. Premier Soccer League chief executive Rodwell Thabe and BUSE’s Mavis Soko lauded the FUZ initiative which they believe is a game-changer that will positively impact the players’ post-playing careers and the administration of the clubs.

“Today we gather to celebrate the hard work, dedication and determination of our students who successfully completed the Certificate in Sports Administration.

“This achievement reflects not only your academic effort, but also your passion for advancing the quality, integrity, and professionalism within the sports sector,’’ Soko said. “You have shown commitment, resilience, and a willingness to learn — qualities that are essential for leadership in today’s dynamic sports environment.

“As you receive your certificates today, remember that this is not just a qualification but a foundation for the roles you will play in shaping the future of sports management, development, and administration. “We trust that you will carry forward the values of excellence, discipline, and ethical practice that you have gained during your studies.

“To the Footballers Union of Zimbabwe administrators, lecturers and supporting staff, thank you for your guidance and unwavering support. To the families and friends of our graduates, we also extend our appreciation for standing by them throughout this journey. “To our graduates — congratulations. We are proud of you. Go out into the world and make a meaningful impact,’’ added Soko.

Thabe told the graduates that both ZIFA and the PSL would, from next year, scale up on the implementation of the Club Licensing and their decision to invest in capacity-building initiatives was a move gladly welcomed by the top-flight league. “I am happy that in graduating, you have also dispelled the notion that footballers do not want to go to schools.

Among those that walked away with certificates was Simba Bhora skipper Blessing Moyo, former Mighty Warriors internationals Rudo Neshamba and Felistas Muzongodi, Ngezi Platinum Stars midfielder Richard Hachiro, veteran Masimba Mambare and Nigel Matinha from MWOS.
