Former Chronicle intern Natasha Mutsiba, who worked on the Showbiz desk, has earned a nomination at this year’s Zimbabwe Annual Film and Television Awards (Zafta).
The budding journalist is nominated in the Film and Television Reporting Excellence Award category, where she will compete with Anesu Mirisawu, Kingstone Zimunya, and Tendai Sauta.
In an interview with Chronicle Showbiz Online, Mutsiba expressed how special this recognition is for her, marking a significant milestone early in her career.
“The Zaftas celebrate the amazing contributions to Zimbabwe’s film and television industry, and this nomination is such a powerful affirmation of my hard work and potential. I’m truly thankful. It means a lot to me, especially since I’m still relatively new to the industry,” Mutsiba shared.
She described the nomination as both a motivating and humbling experience, one that pushes her to continue learning and striving for excellence in journalism.
“This nomination inspires me to keep growing, to keep telling stories that matter. Regardless of the outcome at the awards, I’m committed to improving and making a meaningful impact,” she added.
Reflecting on her journey, Mutsiba said her achievement should inspire aspiring journalists.
“This nomination isn’t just about me – it’s a celebration of all the hard work that goes into journalism. I hope it motivates others starting their careers, showing that if I can achieve this so early on, anyone can,” she said.
The 23-year-old National University of Science and Technology student has always been passionate about storytelling and the film industry. Her fascination with how stories come to life on screen has driven her to cover numerous behind-the-scenes moments of filmmaking.
“Each experience has been an exciting journey, meeting incredible people and learning about their creative processes,” she added.
The Zafta ceremony, set for November 30 in Harare, promises to be a night of celebration, showcasing the talent and dedication that defines Zimbabwe’s film and television industry. The ceremony will be held under the theme “Frame by Frame: Building a thriving cinematic landscape in Zimbabwe”.
