FORMER Magwegwe Secondary School learners have donated a Starlink kit to the institution in a move meant to ensure pupils adapt to the advancement of technology.

The donation was made by Mr Dumisani Gumpo and Mr Mthobie Ndlovu, who attended the school from 1982 to 1985.

Speaking after the handover ceremony that was witnessed by the staff and pupils on Monday, 23 June, Mr Ndlovu said there is a need for former learners to develop skills in their former schools.

“We felt inspired to do something for this school whose opening we pioneered. We believe this will put the school on the world stage and ensure that they become part of today’s technologically empowered youth.

“This is our first donation of a Starlink kit to the school. We have previously contributed funds and bought prizes presented on the school’s prize-giving days. Funds permitting, and with more of the pioneering students coming on board, we wish to introduce AI tools and robotics to the school, as that’s the level developed countries are at,” said Mr Ndlovu.

He said they also intend to look into other avenues where they may continue to partner with the school for the benefit of the learners.

“For starters, we believe the children will benefit immensely as a result of this Starlink donation. Important learning portals will be easily accessed, which is a benefit for both learners and teachers. Technology, as we know, is the way to go. We believe in this small way we will assist efforts by Government to usher in modern classroom environments and enable learners to compete in the global world with their peers.

“To the community, our humble beginnings started at Magwegwe Secondary, and this school inspired quite a number of us. We believe working together we may uplift each other and shape the future of generations to come,” said Mr Ndlovu.
